Yin & Yang Yoga and Buddhist Meditation in Tokyo
InsightYoga 3days Intensive course
These three days are not just a yoga class or meditation session. With Sarah and Ty Powers, we embark on a transformative journey to reconstruct body and mind, quietly facing our own "inner process."
This workshop is designed to combine mindfulness, yoga, and psychological exploration to deeply activate the connection between mind and body. Through meditation, yin and yang yoga, and sessions of self-reflection, we experience mindfulness. This is not to control the moment, but to observe freely and gain valuable insights about ourselves and our relationships.
This weekend aims for mind-body integration and recharging, including four meditation sessions, yin-yang yoga practice, and time for introspection and contemplation.
- Mindfulness is cultivating the ability to let go of the desire to manipulate the present moment and to observe without interference.
- Yoga is a comprehensive practice that promotes deep integration of body, mind, and spirit—a way to live ourselves fully.
- Psychological exploration is the process of deepening insight into self and relationships from a receptive state of mind and body.
Regular practice of these three elements becomes a dynamic and creative exploration that leads to direct experience with fresh clarity.
Insight Yoga
Insight Yoga is not merely learning techniques, but a practice that integrates mindfulness, yoga, and psychological exploration to nurture deep inner growth. Sarah and Ty's teachings focus not on separating each element, but on understanding how they interact and integrate deeply.
Yang yoga is a dynamic practice that activates energy in the body and focuses consciousness on the present moment. On the other hand, yin yoga is a quieter, more receptive practice that creates space for emotional and spiritual exploration, releasing resistance and facing oneself in a state of pure acceptance. Though their approaches differ, both are powerful means of integrating body, mind, and consciousness.
Buddhist Meditation and Psychological Exploration
Through Buddhist meditation and psychological exploration, Sarah and Ty provide a process for recognizing unconscious patterns and transforming them through awareness. By listening to our inner voice and stepping away from external distractions, we gain new insights into our mental states and relationships before returning to daily life.
Sarah and Ty's presence itself is a quiet, powerful inspiration beyond words and techniques. Their teachings are not bound by doctrine; being with them is a living experience that reminds us of our own essence and direction.
This weekend goes beyond a mere workshop; it's an opportunity to return to your core, embrace your true self-process, and gain deep awareness. Meeting with Sarah and Ty will be a transformative experience that cannot be fully expressed in words.
As preliminary learning, we strongly recommend taking "The Four Wisdoms: Yin Yoga and Buddhist Meditation with Sarah and Ty Powers." Also, please read Sarah Powers' "Insight Yoga" before participating.

PROFILE
Sarah Powers Sarah Powers is one of the foremost experts in Yin Yoga, deeply involved in its establishment alongside Paul Grilley. She is the co-founder of the Insight Yoga Institute and author of Insight Yoga, an integrated practice that weaves together yoga, Buddhism, Taoism, and transpersonal psychology to activate the body, mind, and spirit. Sarah began teaching yoga in the mid-80s and currently practices a yoga style that combines yin poses (held on the floor for extended periods to strengthen meridians and organ systems) with alignment-based slow flow or yang movements. Her book “Insight Yoga” balances yin yoga with traditional “yang” yoga, integrating both Chinese medicine, particularly its meridians, and Buddhist Vipassana meditation style, and is widely known globally. Sarah Powers has completed all levels of Inner Child System Therapy training and has studied spiritual psychology for over 35 years. She has also learned from deep training and long-term retreats in Buddhist Vipassana, Tantra, and Dzogchen practices.
Ty Powers Ty Powers is the co-founder of the Insight Yoga Institute. Together with his wife Sarah Powers, he teaches yoga and meditation retreats worldwide. As a graduate of the Spirit Rock Community Dharma Leader Training Program, he has been teaching Vipassana since 2003 and has practiced Dzogchen Buddhism for over 20 years. Ty is also a certified Integral Coach and has completed all levels of Internal Family Systems Therapy training. Additionally, as a graduate of the Skillful Change Strategist Training Program led by Phillip Moffitt, he conducts workshops on self-transformation.

Participant Testimonials
“The course was truly wonderful. I had been feeling an imbalance in my yoga practice for the past year, so I was considering changing my practice style when the time was right. This Insight Yoga TT has illuminated my future direction. Through Sarah’s experience in various learnings and practices beyond yoga, she firmly conveyed that our mission is to balance ourselves through practices for each layer—how to align the body, techniques to remove energy blockages and circulate good energy throughout the body, ways to observe the heart (emotional aspect) and mind (wisdom)—and to transmit positive energy vibrations to those around us. My heart feels incredibly stable now. I received a guidepost for how to walk my life path going forward. I deeply wish to continue studying these teachings.”
“I attended each session feeling honored to participate in the training course with Sarah, whom I’ve long admired. I’m extremely grateful to the staff who organized this and to the interpreter. During the pandemic stress, I discovered yin yoga through online classes when my health was suffering. I remember being deeply moved as my condition improved with practice. Having previously experienced tai chi and qigong, I wanted to learn more deeply about yin yoga incorporating traditional Chinese medicine meridians, which led me to take this training course. Though it was online, the content was extremely fulfilling. This was my first experience deeply studying mindfulness and meditation, and I found it fascinating and profound. I’ve been practicing a little each day for the past month. The 12-minute sessions that initially felt difficult have become much more comfortable now. My sleep quality has improved, and I feel I can be kinder to myself. Since I’ve just started, these are the only effects I’ve noticed, but I’m looking forward to how my mind will continue to change. With so many participants, it might have been difficult to address everyone’s comments and questions individually, but I wish there had been a bit more time for Q&A. I hope to attend a live session next time and meet Sarah in person. Thank you very much.”
“It was a wonderful 8 days. The experience was comparable to a 200-hour in-person TT. Even without communication among participants, it was a very fulfilling time. Thank you. I would like to regularly take Sarah’s yin yoga lessons.”
“I’m delighted that my understanding deepened through such profound content. I was able to learn several things I wanted to know. The content was so rich that I’m still a bit overwhelmed by the amount of learning (laughs). However, I received good stimulation, and I truly understand the meaning of the title ‘Insight Yoga’. I want to maintain my learning time and continue this practice. Thank you very much.”
“It was a very educational time that I feel will bear good fruit within me. Studying in English, and having the Japanese explanation to complement what I couldn’t fully understand in English, deepened my understanding. I found it very helpful that the course period was divided into first and second halves. It gave me time to digest the material. I feel that my own effort is necessary to maintain this awareness going forward.”
“This was the most intensive and rich training among all the teacher trainings I have ever taken. I became interested in Indian philosophy, qigong, and Chinese martial arts around 1990, and obtained a university degree in Buddhism in 1998. My research theme at university was ‘Taoism and Buddhism.’ I encountered yoga in 2015 and became a yoga instructor, but yoga, Taoism, and Buddhism were separate entities in my mind. Through discovering yin yoga, I learned that yoga and Taoism could connect, but by taking Sarah Powers’ teacher training this time, I feel that the yoga, Taoism, and Buddhism existing within me have begun to merge. I feel like I can find a new path as these three previously separate disciplines connect. Thank you.”
“It was a learning time covering a wide range of fields centered on yin yoga. Sarah’s DVD and book ‘Insight Yoga’ have long been like my bible, so I was delighted to attend this workshop.”
“I felt comfortable attending the course with the teacher’s calm atmosphere. The intelligent construction of sequences was very informative, and I would like to apply it to my sequence creation.”
“For the past few years, I have continued yin yoga through self-study using ‘Insight Yoga’ as a textbook. I never thought the day would come when I could directly receive training from the author, Sarah, so it was an emotional 8 days. Through the explanation of each pose, mindfulness of breath, yoga philosophy, Buddha’s teachings, Chinese medicine, and many other knowledge and practices, I have come to love yin yoga even more and feel an increased desire to spread it to many people. Thank you. I am still a mindfulness beginner, but I hope to deepen my learning and strive to remain composed without being disturbed by surrounding noises without needing ‘earplugs.’ If there is another course or training with Sarah, I would definitely like to participate.”
“It was a very meaningful time. In particular, the meridians and meditation methods clarified parts that were previously ambiguous for me. I want to continue studying and practicing. I would like to participate in the next course as well. I look forward to meeting you.”
